About Us & the Cottage

We were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to purchase this cottage. We bought it from the original owner whose family had owned it since Chases Ocean Grove was established in the 1930’s. If you rent our cottage you will see the pictures on the walls from years gone by, and how the cottages evolved to where they are today.

Over 20 years ago we took the kids to Cape Cod and rented a cottage down the road from Chases Ocean Grove. After one of my wife’s morning walks she came back and said “you have to come see this group of cottages I walked through today”. We were not sure what it was, or even if she was allowed to walk in there. We did a little research, and found out that these “associations” were how people use to visit the Cape. They would bring their tents to the Cape and place them on their piece of the “association”.  Families would enjoy their Cape vacation in a family friendly environment. There are only 3 or 4 of these type of “associations” that remain on Cape Cod today.

Over the years when we went to the Cape we would drive through the Grove to see what cottages were for sale. During one stop we met a couple that has had a cottage there since the late 1980’s. They were nice enough to walk us around and show us the ones that were for sale. They also gave us some background on the Grove. They took our number and said they would give us a call if any of the ones we liked ever came on the market. Around 2010 we stopped to see our friends at the Grove and they told us that the cottage we liked the most might be going up for sale. We got excited and she said she would call if, and when it did. Well, 2 years passed with no call. We are thinking they lost our number, or it was sold to someone else. Then, a year later out of the blue we get a call from our friends telling us it is going up for sale. They gave us the realtor’s number and we called. A week later we went down to look at it and meet with the realtor. We made an offer that was accepted and as they say the rest is history.

At the closing we met the owner who was in his early 90’s and still sharp as ever. Early that next year we had dinner with he and his wife. We were excited to sit and just listen to their stories about the Grove. It is unfortunate but as our elderly friends pass so do their stories. We want to hear as much about Chases Ocean Grove from someone who lived it before those stories are gone too.
